INSPIRED
IN SPAIN

A few years ago, I visited the city where I was born, Madrid, Spain.

I remembered nothing of Spain as I was a baby when my parents returned to the United States. Needless to say, Madrid was everything I hoped it would be!

My days there were spent taking in the city's architecture, history, and art. Also enjoyable was exploring the different foods, wines and shops Spain had to offer. Probably the most unique and memorable visit was to a candy shop. This little candy shop, called La Violeta, specialized in one flavor of candy, Violet! They were even in the shape of little violet flowers. I tried a sample and instantly knew what I would be bringing home to my loved ones.

After returning home, I savored the few remaining boxes that I hadn't given away.

Eventually they were gone and all I had left to do was think about how I could possibly duplicate that candy. As it turned out, it wasn't that simple. It wasn't long before I was obsessed with learning as much as I possibly could about working with sugar.

This is how Vineyard Confections came to be.

Although hard candy was my initial focus, I have expanded to making brittles, caramels and a variety of other candies. I love how endless the possibilities are.

And by the way, after many failed attempts, I eventually did create a violet flavored hard candy that is lovely and will always be available at Vineyard Confection.
